Join The Regency Society of Virginia for an afternoon of Silhouettes: November 14, 2020, 1pm ET
The Regency Society of Virginia presents a special collaboration with two powerhouses in the museum and costume community, both artists and interpreters of silhouette portraiture:
USA-based living history specialist and silhouette artist Lauren Muney of Silhouettes By Hand will present the historical side, and
UK-based silhouette artist Charles Burns will cut silhouettes afterwards of those who sign up for the honor.
Join the RSV as the history of Regency-era silhouettes in the United States is explored: "Your Regency Face… A History in Profile" . This virtual presentation explores the background of these profile portraits, especially popular in the decades before photography was invented, for reasons you would never expect. Explore the economic, societal, and philosophical circumstances to create casual as well as frenzied interest in silhouettes. Learn details about profile portraits that you may not have known, including how silhouettes were employed to judge personality and personal traits, and built the framework for important social and industrial movements.
