Full length miniature traditional silhouettes
This option features two (2) full-length freehand-scissored silhouette portraits from the same emailed portrait. Your silhouettes are still made the same way as the other silhouettes - freehand with only scissors. These silhouettes are made from special matte-black paper and will look like the historical silhouettes you may have seen in museums, historic houses, in movies, and other places.
These portraits are perfect for people who would like to have a full length portrait, whether in a historical or fantasy costume or simply to remember a loved one full size. Full length silhouettes have been popular since the 1830s into the 1920s. Please note that some details may not be captured due to the very small silhouettes. The small size is their charm.
People love these stunning full length silhouettes - and they are perfect for mail order because you do not have to stand for 5 minutes for your miniature. Just send a full-length photo as shown below.
Size
The silhouettes themselves are approximately 5" tall, and mounted on 5x7 cardstock, ready for framing.
Two (2) copies
You will receive a Right-facing and a Left-facing silhouette with each order. These silhouettes are perfect for giving to two different people, or keeping one copy and giving the other away as a gift. Note: No frames come with the silhouettes. Either order a frame or mat, or use your own frame.
Amazing but small details
Because of the small size of silhouettes, details will be shown but they will not be pronounced. Miniatures are fun, unexpected, quirky - and adorable. Miniatures are meant for small or subtle locations.
Background types:
You will choose from several background types: acid-free cardstock in two colors, or printed backgrounds.
Printed Backgrounds:
Silhouettes By Hand created its own printed backgrounds from historical sources. These backgrounds are printed in small batches, and may be adding more backgrounds in the future. Currently the backgrounds show a “town-square” and a “rural” scenes, perfect for anyone who wants a background impression ranging from the medieval period to modern time.
Limited stock of printed backgrounds
Quick turnaround on printed cardstock may not be available, depending on the demand, and the possibility of new printings. You will be given a turnaround time (the time when your shipment will be sent to you) after you order. It is strongly suggested that you make order far in advance of any gift-giving; there are no rush orders.
Shipping, frames, mats, or folders are extra cost.

International (not USA)
Due to the postal expense to send from the USA to any other country, it is recommended that all orders are made without any mats or frames. These will be sent thin, letter-sized, and may be delayed due to artist schedule, post office schedule, and/or postal delays out of your artist’s control.
"Quantity of 1" = 1 order of 2 copies, of the same person --or pet . Pets will be full length, horizontal - if they fit on the paper. You will be notified if a pet does not fit in the space well (eg: a full-length horse)

If you won’t be near one of the posted events on the Schedule, or you have wiggly children (or pets) that can’t stay still, you can order a silhouette by email – delivered by mail. A Mail-Order custom artisan-created portraiture perfect for heirloom portraits to pass through your family, or a fun picture for gifting. These silhouettes are elegant holiday or other gifts.

Each silhouette is still cut by hand with only scissors in the traditional manner, and mounted on a card ready for framing, even the optional historic-style frame or mat. Email Your full-length profile photos:
Please encourage your loved one to pose calmly, without making faces or smiling. I know it’s hard with young children or even pets! There are so many reason to wriggle. Try to get them to look forward while watching something in front of them, perhaps a toy or a movie. The better your photos, the better your silhouettes:

Good contrast between subject and background
In-focus
Straight face, closed mouth (no smiles, or talking, or tongues, or grimaces)
Include the whole body, facing entirely sideways: from above the head and include the feet.
Hair suggestion: female hair looks best in silhouettes when styled up, half-up, in bun, braid, ponytail, curly or layered style.
Send several profile photos of the person, taken a second or two apart (if possible). Taking a few photos allows the sitter to be relaxed, and also allows you to readjust your shot to get a true profile (sideways). You should not see the eyelashes of the other side of the face. Make sure you vary your position to take a photo to get the side view.
Please send your photos within 12 hours of making your order. Sending your photos early makes sure that your photos are able to be connected with your order.
