Founder's Day Celebration at the Peale (MD)

UPDATED (8/10/21)

Join the staff and celebrants of America's first purpose-built museum in celebrating 207 years! The Peale Museum, now called the Peale Museum for Baltimore History and Architecture, started as "the son" of America's first museum, the Peale Museum (in Philadelphia)

The Peale, located in Baltimore, Maryland is the oldest museum building in the United States. It was built by Rembrandt Peale, a member of the first family of American artists.

The Founder's Day FREE event celebrates the founding of the Peale, opened as a Museum and Gallery of Fine Art by artist Rembrandt Peale on August 15, 1814

Virtual event, Online
FREE | RSVP required

Join us for a virtual event to celebrate our 207th Birthday! The event includes a virtual tour of the Peale's renovations, a preview of the upcoming Guardians exhibition, and the debut of the original score composed for the Peale's Proximity Project by Scott Patterson from Afro House. WYPR's Aaron Henkin will be with us to reflect on the award-winning Out of the Blocks story series as it comes to an end, and share what is coming next from its renowned producers.

See silhouette cutting in the 19th-century style by artist Lauren Muney, and sing happy birthday to the Peale's Storyteller-in-Residence, Mama Linda Goss – and the Peale, of course!

Don't forget that the virtual program will be "projected" into the courtyard of the Virtual Peale in Second Life. The Second Life program will feature segments with Peale staff and partners and will begin at 6pm EDT in front of the Virtual Peale on Peale Museum Island.
